Viva La (Insulin) Resistance

Mar 31, 2025

What is Insulin Resistance?

In simple terms, insulin is a hormone that helps move sugar (glucose) from your blood into your cells to be used for energy. But when your body stops responding to insulin properly, glucose stays in your bloodstream instead—causing blood sugar spikes and crashes.

Signs You Might Have It

Insulin resistance doesn’t always come with obvious symptoms, but here are some common ones:
- Feeling tired all the time, especially after meals
- Craving sugar and carbs
- Struggling to lose weight, especially around your belly
- Brain fog and difficulty concentrating
- Skin darkening (especially around the neck or armpits)

Why It’s a Big Deal

In the short term, insulin resistance can lead to constant fatigue, weight gain, and sugar crashes. But in the long run, if left unchecked, it can develop into Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and even increase your risk of certain cancers. Not ideal!

How to Fix It

The good news? You can reverse insulin resistance with the right lifestyle changes. Here’s what helps:
- Prioritising protein and healthy fats to keep blood sugar stable
- Strength training and regular movement (muscle helps absorb glucose!)
- Giving your body a break from constant eating (try longer gaps between meals)
- Cutting back on ultra-processed foods and sugary drinks

If any of this sounds familiar and you’d like to work on it together, let’s chat! I can help you build a personalised plan to support your health, energy, and fitness goals.

Stay strong, Viva La Resistance!
